Support for your business

Landlord accounting and tax-return support

Keep rental records organised and agree the right accounting support for the way your property is owned.

A personally owned rental property and a property held in a company involve different accounting questions. We begin with the ownership structure, the periods involved and the quality of the records, then agree the support needed.

Organise records by property

Keep rental statements, agent deductions, invoices, finance documents and periods of ownership identifiable for each property. Record gross rent and costs separately rather than relying only on the net amount received from an agent.

Flag changes before preparing the return

Tell us about joint ownership, changes in use, new purchases or disposals and any overseas interests. These can require work beyond routine rental-income reporting. Keep supporting documents; a website checklist cannot determine the tax treatment of a particular payment.

Agree the correct scope

Discuss whether you need bookkeeping, personal tax-return support, company accounts or a combination. Ask about digital reporting requirements using HMRC’s current guidance. Specialist transactions should be identified and separately scoped before advice or filing work is agreed.

Before we start

Can you help with more than one property?

Tell us the number of properties, ownership structure and transaction volume so the work and fee can be scoped appropriately.

Does a landlord package include advice on selling a property?

Do not assume that it does. A disposal or restructuring is different from routine annual reporting and needs a separately agreed review.

A clear proposal before you commit.

Explain your business, current records and any urgent dates. The initial consultation is free.
